Our space is very divided now, which is not how we are as a Middle School community. We’re very collaborative and we encourage that with our students.

Every decision about this project has been made with the unique culture of Flint Hill in mind.

It’s a culture that values relationships and risk-taking. A culture where you get support for your unique learning style, but also learn to advocate for yourself. A culture where we cheer for each other.

My favorite spot in the new building is the Commons, a flexible space where we can have seating if we want to have a Town Meeting, where we can all eat lunch, but mostly where the kids can explore responsible independence.
— Brian Lamont, Director of the Middle School

The Commons — the heart of the new building — is a cafeteria, a meeting space, and a place to celebrate our unique community. At rear, behind a soundproof glass wall, is the Learning Commons, a place for studying, reading, dreaming.

Having more purposeful space for the kids who are ready for it, but still letting it be physically separate from both the younger kids and the high school kids, is ideal. The 7th and 8th graders are going to be so ready to transition to our Upper School.

Because of the design of the building, it’s going to be a place that goes beyond just a Middle School. It’s going to be a place where the community gathers.
— Anne Peterson, Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations
